Narendra Modi Stadium bomb threat confirmed as hoax by police
Ahmedabad police and the Cyber Cell investigated the email threat targeting the stadium and declared it a hoax on October 7, 2026.
Ahmedabad police confirmed on October 7, 2026 that a bomb threat email sent to Narendra Modi Stadium was a hoax. The Cyber Cell team visited the stadium on the same day to investigate the source of the email and begin tracing its origin and routing.
The threat email was directed specifically at the Diljit Dosanjh concert scheduled at the venue on November 21, 2026. The email claimed association with the Khalistan National Army and additionally warned of bomb blasts at JLN Stadium in Delhi on November 1, 2026.
The stadium was not the sole target. Ahmedabad High Court, along with several schools and colleges across the city, received similar threat emails on October 7, 2026. Ten private schools in Ahmedabad were among the institutions that received the emails, and security checks were carried out at all affected locations following the threats.
A youth cricket fixture was in progress at the time the threat was received. The India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 second multi-day match was underway at Ground A of the stadium complex when the email arrived, though the match was not disrupted by the security response.
What did the Gujarat Cricket Association say about the threat?
Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary Anil Patel addressed the incident publicly and confirmed that the association had followed the correct procedure upon receiving the email. He also noted that the stadium had encountered similar situations on previous occasions, indicating that an established protocol between the GCA and local law enforcement was already in place.
“We informed the local police as soon as we received the email. This has happened a couple of times earlier as well, including during the World Cup 2023 and IPL,” Patel said as quoted by Outlook.
The reference to the 2023 World Cup and IPL confirms that Narendra Modi Stadium has been the subject of threat emails before. Coordination between the GCA and local law enforcement is therefore an existing practice rather than a new arrangement introduced in response to this particular incident.
What is the current status of the investigation?
Police have confirmed the threat was a hoax, but the inquiry into who sent the emails remains open as of October 7, 2026. The Cyber Cell visit to the stadium formed the first step of that investigation, with authorities examining the origin and routing of the threat email.
The simultaneous targeting of multiple institutions, including the Ahmedabad High Court, ten private schools and the cricket stadium, forms part of the broader inquiry. The email's claimed link to the Khalistan National Army is also being examined as investigators work to establish the geographic origin of the messages.
Authorities have not publicly named any suspect or confirmed where the emails were sent from. The investigation remains ongoing and no further procedural steps have been publicly announced as of the date of this report.
